‘If you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.’ Proverbs 3:24
Heavenly Father, Who alone makes us to dwell in safety,
Refresh with quiet sleep this night
all who are sick and suffering
And those who are wearied
with the labours of the day.
Bless, all toilers of the night,
And those whose work is without reward, joy or love,
And speed the dawn of that tomorrow when
‘None shall hurt or destroy’ but
‘The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.’
And now as we lie down in peace to take our rest
Make us happy in the consciousness
that there stands One within the shadows,
‘Keeping watch above His own.’
Into His Holy Care and Keeping
We commit ourselves this night and evermore.
Amen.
O Lord, support us all the day long of this challenging life,
Until the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes,
And the busy world is hushed,
And the fever of life is over,
And our work is done.
Then Lord, in Your Mercy,
Grant us safe lodging, a holy rest,
And peace at the last,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
