This free course from GoHealth, created in partnership with Scientists in Congregations and the International Society for Science and Religion, explores the emerging field of spiritual intelligence through theology, neuroscience, psychology, and spiritual practice. Across six modules, you’ll engage with new research, ancient Christian wisdom, and practical tools to deepen your faith, strengthen your ministry, and grow as a healing presence in the world.
Led by The Revd. Dr. Gillian Straine and joined by expert thinkers Dr. Marius Dorobantu, Dr. Mark Vernon, and Dr. Harris Wiseman, we’ll ask what spiritual intelligence really is, how the brain processes meaning, and what that means for the way we pray, move, pay attention, and imagine.

How does it work
We connect with people who want to run this course in their church or home group – that’s you! Fill in the form – that’s how we connect! Later in the summer we will provide you with promotional material and access to the course content. In the meantime, you need to decide if your group will be doing the course in person or online. You will also need to identify 6 dates when your group of people will meet together to go through the course together. The course needs to start (and end) sometime between September and December this year. Each session of the course is structured with videos, reflections and questions. You will help manage the tech side of things and host the discussion. When your group has completed the course, we hope you’ll help collate feedback for us. You can contact us for help and advice.
Who is responsible for organising the course in the local church?
You are! We will give you access to the online course and instructions about running the course. You will have to arrange the course times and the details of how people will gather. We will also send you leaflets about the course for you to circulate or print. Please note, GoHealth accepts no liability associated with the running of the course.
Can I do this course as a solo learner?
Yes! But not yet…The development of this course is funded by Scientists in Congregations and the focus in this first phase is on church communities. We will be releasing a solo learners option in later 2025/early 2026. Please join the mailing list to be the first to hear about it.
I am interested in running this course, but I am not part of a church community. Can other Christian groupings (for example, chaplaincies) get access to the course?

Can I run the course for a group on zoom?
Yes. The course can be run in person and on zoom. On zoom, you will need to be able to ‘share your screen’. We will send instructions for running the course in person and using zoom.
I would like to attend this course, but I can’t run it myself. What should I do?
It is wonderful that you are interested in the course. You could let your vicar or chaplain or Christian leader know about the course and perhaps they might be willing to run it.
I am really interested in running this course, but I don’t know anything about spiritual intelligence.
Don’t worry. No experience is needed. All the science is delivered by the experts within the course structure. We provide you with questions based on their input, so that you can lead the discussion with your group. We will also give you all the theological content too. You will just have to lead everyone through the journey and create space for the discussions.
When will you send the course to the leaders?
Late summer we will give you access to the online course so that you can have a look before the first of your sessions.
How long should I plan for each session?
Each module of the course is designed to run for two hours. This includes time for gathering, prayers, watching the videos, and having a great discussion.
I have registered! Is there anything that I can do now in preparation to lead the course?
You don’t have to do anything. But you might like to familiarise yourself with the online platform on which the course will be delivered. See this page for all of our online courses.
