Nutrition, Health & Healing
In this edition of Chrism we are taking a broad look at nutrition and nourishment in relation to health and healing. Maggie Smith’s article, from the perspective of both a professional dietician and a Christian sets the scene for thinking about spiritual and physical nourishment for our personal wellbeing. Paul Nener’s exploration of the spiritual nourishment provided by the Eucharist and other sacraments takes this a step further in one direction, and is complemented by information about Mosamaria’s promotion of Trench Vegetable Gardens in counteracting HIV/AIDS. The food and well-being scene is, however, much wider than considerations of consumers only. The sources of our food and the well-being of the producers and the earth itself are also major Christian concerns, and Alan Hipple’s account of the Fairtrade movement is helpfully thought provoking. Bishop John Prichard’s exploration of ‘How do we flourish?’ is a fascinatingly complementary topic.
