In a world of uncertainty, we need wise people to carry the Church’s mission forward.
This course will help us discover what that means—together
What if wisdom went deeper than logic and emotion? What if the way we pray, notice beauty, and make meaning are all part of a deeper intelligence—spiritual intelligence?
This ourse from GoHealth, created in partnership with Scientists in Congregations and the International Society for Science and Religion, explores the emerging field of spiritual intelligence through theology, neuroscience, psychology, and spiritual practice.
Over six engaging sessions, we’ll draw on:
- Ancient Christian wisdom
- New insights from science and theology
- Practical tools for prayer, attention, movement and imagination
Led by The Revd. Dr. Gillian Straine and joined by expert thinkers Dr. Marius Dorobantu, Dr. Mark Vernon, and Dr. Harris Wiseman, we’ll ask what spiritual intelligence really is, how the brain processes meaning, and what that means for the way we pray, move, pay attention, and imagine.
Church leaders will find this course a powerful resource for group learning because it weaves together cutting-edge science, deep theology, and accessible spiritual practices to explore how people grow in wisdom, faith, and healing presence. For leaders seeking to renew their communities with insight, hope, and spiritual depth, this course is both timely and transformative.

Yes. The course can be run in person and on zoom. On zoom, you will need to be able to ‘share your screen’. We will send instructions for running the course in person and using zoom.
I would like to attend this course, but I can’t run it myself. What should I do?
It is wonderful that you are interested in the course. You could let your vicar or chaplain or Christian leader know about the course and perhaps they might be willing to run it.
I am really interested in running this course, but I don’t know anything about spiritual intelligence.
Don’t worry. No experience is needed. All the science is delivered by the experts within the course structure. We provide you with questions based on their input, so that you can lead the discussion with your group. We will also give you all the theological content too. You will just have to lead everyone through the journey and create space for the discussions.
How long should I plan for each session?
Each module of the course is designed to run for two hours. This includes time for gathering, prayers, watching the videos, and having a great discussion.
I have registered! Is there anything that I can do now in preparation to lead the course?
You don’t have to do anything. But you might like to familiarise yourself with the online platform on which the course will be delivered. See this page for all of our online courses. You might like to do ‘Belonging in a divided world’, which is based on a mental health and the church lecture, and will give you a sense of our style, approach and how to work the platfrom.
