This lecture explores how to create healing communities of presence and belonging founded on the ministry of Jesus. With stories, practical suggestions and profound theology, John invites each of us into a vision of Christian community that does not seek to ‘fix’ brokenness but rather honour each person’ unique journey.

Prof John Swinton is professor of practical theology and pastoral care at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He is founder of the university’s Centre for Spirituality, Health and Disability. He is also an ordained minister of the Church of Scotland. He is the author of Becoming Friends of Time: Disability, Timefullness, and Gentle Discipleship (Baylor University Press, 2016) and his new book Finding Jesus in the Storm: The Spiritual Lives of Christians with Mental Health Challenges (Eerdmans, 2020).

The Denis Duncan lecture was created in partnership with the Church of Scotland
