Faith and Fitness

An exciting and unique day conference exploring the important role that sport and exercise plays in the relationship between our faith and our bodies. Through a number a keynote speakers, and through workshops we will explore the ways in which we can improve connections between mind, body and spirit and how that can contribute to health and healing.
The Revd. Dr Rob Ellis has been Principal of Regent Park College, Oxford since 2007, having been Tutorial Fellow in Pastoral Theology since 2001. Previously, he has served as a Baptist minister in Milton Keynes and Bristol, and was Tutor in Christian Doctrine at Bristol Baptist College. Rob’s research interests are currently in the interface of belief and practice. He has published books on the theology of intercessory prayer, and in 2014 on theology and sport, in addition to articles on a wide range of subjects including theology and film.
Jenny Baker is a Christian, marathon runner and a member of the Ealing Eagles running club. She works in the charity sector and is a writer, blogger and chair of Amos Trust, a creative human rights charity. She has recently published ‘Run for your life: How one woman ran circles around breast cancer’
The Revd. Graham Buckle, Vicar of St Stephen’s, Rochester Row and English Channel swimmer. Graham is a highly experienced community leader, specialising in mental health and pastoral ministry. He is also a wild swimmer, marathon runner and cyclist. He will be speaking on mental health and fitness, and leading a workshop based on his experience of swimming the channel.
There will also be workshops on Yoga and Keep Fit, and the chance to reflect on your fitness and wellbeing on the run up to the event.
This event is an ecumenical event, open to all ages and fitness levels, from super athlete to coach potato – ALL WELCOME!
